About Us

From Carbis Bay, in the heart of the mining district

Who We Are

Bal and Beyond started with a simple idea: Cornwall's mining heritage deserves better than a dusty information board. We're based in Carbis Bay — on the edge of the West Penwith mining district, with shafts under our feet and engine houses visible from the hill behind the house. This isn't abstract history to us. It's the landscape we live in.

We run guided tours across West Penwith with a small team of local guides who know the landscape, the history, and the stories that don't make it into the guidebooks. We also make short films — published on YouTube, used in local schools — that bring the human stories of Cornish mining to life.

"The mines shaped Cornwall. The miners shaped the world. We think that story deserves to be told properly — on screen, on foot, and in the landscape itself."
